1. Dua in Ramadan In the Last Third of the Night

The last third of the night is one of the most sacred times for dua. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) stated:

إن ربنا تبارك وتعالى ينزل كل ليلة إلى السماء الدنيا حين يبقى ثلث الليل الآخر، فيقول: من يدعوني فأستجيب له؟ من يسألني فأعطيه؟ من يستغفرني فأغفر له؟”

“Indeed, Our Lord descends to the seventh heaven towards the end of every night and says thrice: ‘Who is calling Me so I may answer him? Who is seeking Me so that I may bestow upon him? Who is seeking forgiveness from Me so I may forgive him?'” (Bukhari, Muslim)

2. While Fasting, Especially Before Iftar

The Prophet (ﷺ) said:

“ثلاثة لا ترد دعوتهم: الصائم حين يفطر، والإمام العادل، ودعوة المظلوم.”

“There are three whose supplications are not rejected: the fasting person when he breaks his fast, the just ruler, and the supplication of the oppressed.” (Tirmidhi)

3. Dua in Ramadan On Fridays (During the Last Hour Before Maghrib)

The Prophet (ﷺ) said:

“إن في الجمعة ساعة لا يوافقها مسلم وهو قائم يصلي يسأل الله خيرًا إلا أعطاه إياه.”

“On Friday, there is a one-hour span in which no Muslim performs dua to Allah for good, but He will grant it to him.” (Bukhari, Muslim)

4. On the Night of Qadr (Laylatul Qadr)

The Prophet (ﷺ) instructed Aisha (RA) to recite this Qadr Night Dua:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ كَرِيمٌ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي

“O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love to forgive. So, forgive me.” (Tirmidhi)

5. Sujood (Prostration)

“أقرب ما يكون العبد من ربه وهو ساجد، فأكثروا الدعاء.”

“The nearest a slave can be to his Lord is when he is prostrating, so supplicate abundantly.” (Muslim)

6. Dua in Ramadan Between Adhan and Iqamah

The Prophet (ﷺ) said:

“الدعاء بين الأذان والإقامة لا يرد.”

“A dua prayed between Adhan and Iqamah is never rejected.” (Abu Dawood, Tirmidhi)

Prophet Muhammad’s Recommended Duas for Ramadan

1. Dua for Breaking the Fast (Iftar)

While breaking his fast, the Prophet (ﷺ) would say:

اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ صُمْتُ وَعَلَىٰ رِزْقِكَ أَفْطَرْتُ

Transliteration: Allahumma laka sumtu wa ‘ala rizqika aftartu.

Translation: O Allah, I have fasted for You, and with Your provision, I break my fast. (Abu Dawood)

Another dua:

ذَهَبَ الظَّمَأُ وَابْتَلَّتِ الْعُرُوقُ وَثَبَتَ الْأَجْرُ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ

Transliteration: Dhahaba al-zama’u wabtallati al-‘urooqu wa thabata al-ajru in sha’ Allah.

Translation: The thirst has gone, the veins are moistened, and the reward is assured, if Allah wills.

Stop before taking the first sip of water at iftar and make a sincere Dua in Ramadan, for this is a time when supplications are accepted.  

2. Dua for Laylatul Qadr (The Night of Decree)

Aisha (RA) asked about what to say on Laylatul Qadr and the best Dua in Ramadan, and the Prophet (ﷺ) instructed her to recite:  

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ كَرِيمٌ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي

Transliteration: Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun kareemun tuhibbul-‘afwa fa’fu ‘anni.

Translation: O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love to forgive, so forgive me. (Tirmidhi)

Recite this dua abundantly during the last ten nights of Ramadan, especially on the odd nights.

3. Dua for Seeking Forgiveness (Istighfar)

Ramadan is a time for mercy and forgiveness, and Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) strongly encouraged making istighfar (seeking forgiveness). One of his most strongly recommended Dua in Ramadan is:

أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ

Transliteration: Astaghfirullah wa atubu ilayh.

Transliteration: Allahumma inni as’alukal-jannah.

Translation: O Allah, I ask You for Paradise.

Transliteration: Allahumma a’inni ‘ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni ‘ibadatika.

Transliteration: Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun kareemun tuhibbul-‘afwa fa’fu ‘anni.

رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَتُبْ عَلَيَّ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ

Transliteration: Rabbi ighfir li wa tub ‘alayya innaka anta at-Tawwab ar-Raheem.

Translation: My Lord, forgive me and accept my repentance, for You are the Ever-Accepter of Repentance, the Most Merciful.

One of the best Dua in Ramadan is:

اللَّهُمَّ أَجِرْنِي مِنَ النَّارِ

Transliteration: Allahumma ajirni min an-naar.

Translation: O Allah, save me from the Fire.

The Prophet (ﷺ) recommended saying this seven times after Fajr and Maghrib.

 

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْجَنَّةَ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ النَّارِ

Transliteration: Allahumma inni as’alukal-jannah wa a’udhu bika min an-naar.

Translation: O Allah, I ask You for Paradise, and I seek refuge in You from the Fire.

 

رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

Transliteration: Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanah wa fil-akhirati hasanah wa qina ‘adhab an-naar.
