What is the “ٌRiwayat Warsh”?
The “Riwayat Warsh” is a mode of reciting the Quran that is popular in North Africa and most Arab countries, named after Imam Warsh. It differs much from other recitation styles in pronunciation and wording.
Where does Warsh come from?
The Warsh recitation style of the Quran is named after its transmitter, Imam Othman bin Said ِAl Mesry, who was known as Warsh. It is one of the 20 Riwayat (narrations) of the Quran, primarily practiced in North Africa, particularly in Morocco and Algeria.
What is Warsh and Hafs?
Warsh and Hafs are different modes of reciting the Quran. Riwayat Imam Warsh is popular in North Africa (Morocco, Algeria), named after Imam Warsh from Egypt. Riwayat Hafs is widely used globally and is the most common recitation mode of the Quran.
How does the Warsh recitation differ from other Qiraat?
Riwayat Warsh, one of the twenty Riwayat below the ten Qiraat of the Qur’an, differs from the more widely known Hafs recitation in various ways, including pronunciation, vowelization, spelling, and Tajweed rules.
